Strategic Elements Ltd autonomous security vehicle collaboration draws  strong attentionStrategic Elements (ASX: SOR) is expanding into the defence sector with its subsidiary Stealth Technologies’ autonomous vehicle and platform technologies. The Defence Science and Technology Group (DST) will conduct a feasibility and scoping study with Stealth, evaluating the technology for autonomous sensing and search of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) sources.

The $730 million fund is a ten year program managed by Defence Science and Technology Group encouraging research and development by Australian Industry and Academia into innovation and cutting edge technologies for the Australian Defence Force.Reliability in autonomous and robotic weapons is a core investment of the government’s $1.2bn Next Generation Technologies Fund, administered by the Defence Department’s Defence Science and Technology Group. The $50m, Brisbane-based Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence Cooperative Research Centre (TAS DCRC) is Australia’s first and only such centre under the fund, and currently there are no plans for another DCRC, a department spokesperson says.

Aerospace Division (AD), as part of Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), is undertaking a program of work aiming to develop a material state prediction capability for the in-service life management of composite aircraft structures. This is envisaged to deliver Defence outcomes including increased operational availability and reduced cost of ownership.
