SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 8 (SeeNews) - Swedish aerospace and defence company Saab signed a contract with German shipbuilding company Lurssen to provide and integrate the combat system for the Bulgarian Navy’s new multipurpose modular patrol vessels, Saab said on Tuesday. "We are proud to continue our successful cooperation with Lurssen.
We look forward to contributing to strengthen Bulgaria’s defence and national security for years to come with our proven technology and solid naval combat system expertise," Anders Carp, deputy CEO of Saab, said in a statement.
Saab will carry out the work at its premises in Sweden, Denmark, Australia and South Africa.
Last month, Bulgaria's defence ministry signed a 984 million levs ($551 million/503 million euro) contract with Lurssen Werft for the acquisition of two multi-functional modular patrol ships for the needs of the Navy. The two vessels will be built in Bulgaria, in Varna-based MTG Dolphin shipyard.
