German company RENK has announced its intention to expand an operational footprint into Australia should Rheinmetall’s Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) be selected for the Land 400 Phase 3 program. The company says that should the Lynx IFV be selected, it will establish a new subsidiary in Brisbane to assemble and test transmission systems and final drives for the Lynx and potentially other military vehicles in service across the region.

After an outstanding career in a variety of key strategic roles, Major General Fox is set to become Australia’s first female Deputy Chief of Army. Major General Fox joined the ADF in 1988, graduating from the Royal Military College in 1991.

Two North Queensland businesses will build seven new watercraft as part of the Morrison Government’s commitment to strengthening the Australian Army’s amphibious capability. The vessels, which will be built locally in Cairns, will assist Army amphibious operations and support systems. Acting Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne said the watercraft will replace Army’s water safety and inshore hydrographic capability.

The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) has officially unveiled the names of the two shortlisted contenders for the Australian Army’s $14–21 billion infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) requirement. Prototypes of the Australia Redback, produced by South Korea's Hanwha Defense, and the Australia Lynx KF41, produced by Germany's Rheinmetall Defence, were showcased in an event held last week in Canberra.

The Australian army announced plans Tuesday to phase out its littoral fleet in favor of a new line of amphibious landing craft. While the service's Lighter, Amphibious, Resupply, Cargo vehicle, or LARC-V, vessels are unlikely to change much, the Landing Craft Mechanized, Mark 8, or LCM-8, is "likely to change significantly" under a planned overhaul to the fleet, according to Australian officials.

The centre will be located in Townsville, a city in the state of Queensland. The Government of Australia will invest A$31m ($23.58m) in the project, which will house simulated facilities to support training for upgraded M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank, as well as incoming LAND 400 and LAND 8160 armoured vehicle capabilities.

The Sydney-based integrated services provider has been awarded a contract via the Defence Innovation Hub to deliver CIED capability as part of the LAND 154 Phase 4 project. Downer Defence Systems (DDS) has been selected as the prime contractor for the delivery of ‘Muskito’ capability — an integrated Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) concept that leverages autonomous systems and machine learning to detect above-ground and below-surface threats before alerting an operator via a visual interface.
