WASHINGTON — American firm Raytheon Technologies and Israeli-based Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have formed a joint venture to build the Iron Dome missile defense system in the United States, the companies announced Aug. 3. Under the name Raytheon Rafael Area Protection Systems, the partnership is being set up to build a first-ever Iron Dome “all-up-round” facility stateside.

The U.S. Air Force might deploy a new generation of air-launched, nuclear-armed cruise missiles earlier than planned due to successful design work, prototyping and conceptual development for the weapon. By choosing Raytheon’s design as a “sole source contractor,” the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center expressed confidence that the weapon will arrive “on-schedule,” according to a report in Air Force Magazine.

Raytheon Missiles & Defense, a Raytheon Technologies business, completed the first guided release of a StormBreaker smart weapon from an F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which will become the second fighter jet to add the weapon when the program reaches initial operational capability later this year. StormBreaker features a try-mode seeker that uses imaging infrared and millimeter wave radar in its normal mode.

Collins Aerospace, Raytheon and Technology Advancement Group were awarded contracts to develop Global Positioning System handheld devices for the U.S. military. The U.S. Space Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center said on July 8 that the three companies collectively received $41.1 million to develop small handheld devices that will be used in field tests.

Raytheon Technologies Corp. (NYSE: RTX) signed a $6 billion contract modification Monday to provide the Defense Logistics Agency with parts and repair and engineering services for multiple weapons systems. The modification raises the potential value of the original indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to $8 billion, up from $2 billion.

The U.S Department of Defense announced on Wednesday an agreement worth about $495 million for advanced medium range air-to-air missile (AMRAAM) program support and annual sustainment. The contract award from Air Force Lifecycle Management Center enables the company to provide non-warranty repairs, program support, contractor logistics support and service life prediction program analysis supporting the AMRAAM weapon system.
