US Department of Defence seeks to expand the role of AI – New Delhi Times Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a major area of research for the US defence sector. The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) is the focal point for carrying it out. The JAIC was established in 2018 by the DoD to seize upon the transformative potential of AI technology for the benefit of America’s national security.

In an effort to field MQ-9 Reapers faster and meet an increasing operational demand for the aircraft, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s MQ-9 Program Office awarded a $7.4 billion ceiling Agile Reaper Enterprise Solution (ARES) contract to General Atomics Sept. 17. The MQ-9 is an unmanned aircraft with intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike capabilities, and is one of the most in demand weapons systems in the U.S. Air Force.

U.S. Marine Corps awards contract to Kongsberg for XM914 remote weapon  stations Kongsberg has been awarded a contract to provide XM914 (30mmx113mm) remote weapon stations for the Marine Air Defense Integrated System program, according to a company news release. The systems will be integrated on the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) and will include a number of specialized counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) and air defense capabilities.

Secretary of Defence Mark Esper said Wednesday that while China has more ships, it will be a while before it can match the power of the US Navy. “I want to make clear that China cannot match the United States when it comes to naval power.,” Esper explained at a RAND Corporation event. “Even if we stopped building new ships, it would take the [People’s Republic of China] years to close the gap when it comes to our capability on the high seas.,” he said.

Lockheed Martin Wins AEGIS Weapon System Ship Integration Contract   According to a contract released by the U.S. DoD on September 3, 2020, Lockheed Martin, Rotary and Mission Systems, Moorestown, New Jersey, is awarded a $51,865,301 cost-plus-incentive-fee modification to previously awarded contract N00024-15-C-5151 to exercise options for ship integration and test of the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) for AWS Baselines through Advanced Capability Build (ACB) 16 for nine new construction guided missile destroyer (DDG 51).

The Marine Corps is building a new state-of-the-art facility where it will run classified wargaming scenarios in preparation for a fight with a high-tech enemy.A new Marine Corps Wargaming and Analysis Center is expected to be up and running in Quantico, Virginia, by 2024. The 100,000-square foot center, which will be built on the Marine Corps University campus, will host more than a dozen wargames every year -- including two large-scale, 250-person exercises, a new announcement on the center states.
