The U.S. Army on Tuesday at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford received the first Infantry Squad Vehicle made by GM Defense LLC, just 120 days after winning the contract. GM formed GM Defense in 2017. This vehicle is the first major contract the wholly owned subsidiary has won and it's key to the future growth of GM Defense.

SpaceX is now collaborating with the US army to build a rocket that could transport weapons systems anywhere on the globe in merely 60 minutes. This comes days after Elon Musk’s SpaceX inked a USD 149 million contract with Pentagon to develop missile-tracking satellites. Addressing a virtual conference on Wednesday, head of the US Transportation Command General Stephen Lyons made the new deal public.

The US Navy destroyer USS Zumwalt fired a missile for the first time during a recent weapons test, the Navy announced Monday. The Zumwalt, a first-in-class stealth destroyer, test-fired an SM-2 missile from the ship's launcher last Tuesday at the Naval Air Weapons Center Weapons Division Sea Test Range in Point Mugu, California.

The new mobile and survivable direct-fire combat vehicle that could boost the firepower of the U.S. Army light forces will begin the phase of evaluation in 2021. According to a recent service statement, the Army will begin independent operational testing and evaluation of two light tank prototypes developed by the General Dynamics and BAE Systems under the Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) program in January 2021 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Earlier this year, the Army selected a Textron team to develop its subsidiary Howe & Howe's unmanned vehicle for the service's Robotic Combat Vehicle, or RCV, Medium platform.

Secretary of Defence Mark Esper said Tuesday afternoon that the US Navy needs more than 500 ships by 2045 to counter China. Speaking at an online Centre for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments event, Esper unveiled his plan for the future fleet: “Battle Force 2045.” The plan calls for a force of 355 traditional warfighting vessels by 2035 and a larger force consisting of over 500 manned and unmanned vessels by 2045.

Graphene Bolometer Sensor Army-funded research developed a new microwave radiation sensor with 100,000 times higher sensitivity than currently available commercial sensors. Researchers said better detection of microwave radiation will enable improved thermal imaging, electronic warfare, radio communications and radar. The team includes scientists from Harvard University, The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Raytheon BBN Technologies.

As autonomous aircraft get more sophisticated, they could provide invaluable support to crewed fighter jets or bombers by escorting them into dangerous territories.
