F-35 - Sputnik InternationalThe British Defence Department has signed a contract with MBDA, according to which British Royal Air Force F-35B fighters will be equipped with third generation Spear 3 missiles. The contract, worth £550 million (approximately $750 million), will provide new weapons by 2025, according to Defence Blog.

A consortium led by Capita has been selected as the winning bidder to provide training services to the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines. The company will now help to modernise the Royal Navy’s shore-based training across 16 sites in the UK, as the lead partner in a consortium which bid as Fisher Training. The other members of the consortium are Raytheon UK, Elbit Systems UK and Fujitsu, as well as with several smaller British suppliers.

UK RAF receives Lanza Long Tactical Range 25 radar from Indra The British Royal Air Force (RAF) has received a Lanza Long Tactical Range 25 radar produced by Spain-based company Indra. The advanced long-range air defence radar system is designed to support operations worldwide as it can be easily carried using in-service military vehicles and transport aircraft such as the C130J Hercules. As it comprises a small number of components, the radar system can be rapidly deployed.

Boxer military contracts awarded to two UK defence suppliers Telford-based defence supplier RBSL and Stockport-based WFEL have signed deals to manufacture boxer vehicles for the British Army. The companies will produce approximately half each of the 500+ vehicles set to be supplied to the UK under the £2.3 billion contract signed with ARTEC at the end of 2019. In November 2019, ARTEC, a joint venture between two German companies – Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.

Picture: AFP Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged to restore Britain’s status as the “foremost naval power in Europe” and promised significant investment in new warships. In a speech on his vision for the armed forces overnight Thursday, Mr Johnson announced a four-year funding deal, which he said was worth £16.5bn ($29bn), for the Ministry of Defence that would facilitate a generational upgrade of the military.

Viasat UK Ltd., said in a Wednesday release that the UHF satcom will provide the Type 31 frigates with secure integrated voice and data services for communications between Royal Navy maritime vessels and headquarters.
