Thales Australia have this week conducted a safe test firing of a sovereign rocket motor.  The testing of locally designed and manufactured Jones rocket motors “continues the expansion of Australia’s sovereign defence industrial and manufacturing capabilities” by evaluating local rocket motor nozzle design and materials.

John Cockerill Defense and Thales are combining their skills and product portfolio for the first firing tests of a mixed cannon and 70mm rocket system integrated on a Cockerill 3030 turret. Drawing on their respective expertise in turrets and guns for John Cockerill Defense and airborne weapons systems for Thales, the integration of the two systems was completed in less than 6 months

The ALFS (Airborne Low Frequency Sonar)* dipping sonars will be installed on the MH-60R platform for the U.S. Navy and three navies. Delivery of the first 42 systems will occur over the next five years with a delivery of 13 optional systems to occur in year six.

Airbus, Fujitsu and Thales UK have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work collaboratively on the upcoming Systems Integrator (SI) opportunity for the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD), Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information Systems program – known as LE TacCIS. Thales Australia has been awarded A$23.7m contract by the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to deliver enhanced sonar systems of the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins-class submarines. Under the contract, Thales Australia will design and implement the Mine and Obstacle Avoidance Sonar (MOAS) and High Frequency Intercept Array (HFIA) systems for the six operational Collins-class submarines.

Eight White Paper contracts awarded for sub combat system - Australian  Defence Magazine The Government of Australia has signed a contract with Thales UK for the design of Attack-class submarine’s primary underwater sensor. The contract was signed via Lockheed Martin Australia for the outboard flank array design and includes partnering arrangements with Australian industry. The outboard flank array acts as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the submarine when it is submerged.
